Interior Stairs and Handrail Repaint
After recent renovations this handrail and stair no longer aesthetically matched the rest of the house. The old natural oak stairs and red handrail prevented the entrance of the home from flowing with the newly updated main floor. We were called to address the issue and make certain that when one first entered the home, the stage was set and you knew exactly how nice of a home you were entering!
Clients’ Wishes
These clients wanted to completely remove and redo their handrail and stairs, but upon receiving quotes for such extensive work they called us to see what we could do. We were able to provide a quote within their budget that was vastly cheaper to paint then the alternative of replacing. The clients had us refresh the spindles, change the colour of the handrail and baseplate and completely repaint the stairs. They were updating the colour scheme to match the rest of the house and then running a new carpet runner down the stairs that complimented the painting.
What We Did
We began with a fresh coat of white paint on the spindles to mask any wear and tear and make them a crisp, bright white. We then taped off the floors, spindles and stairs where required to both protect from paint and segregate each paint section seeing as we were dealing with multiple colours. The old oak stairs had a clear coat on them which required 2 primer coats. Its imperative that we use the appropriate primer to cover the clear coat, otherwise the clear coat will chew through the fresh paint job and ruin the stairs. This can be very expensive to fix and looks horrible when it happens. Two coats of paint are then applied where required. After waiting 24 hours for a full cure of the stair paint, we are then able to return and remove any tape and apply touch ups where necessary.
